When the customer brought us this old goldsmith’s desk, the amazement pervaded us; for the beauty but above all for the conditions. It was one of those furniture that at first glance seems healthy, in reality it was largely to be redone. The request was to transform it from a counter for work, into a bathroom bench for a farmhouse, with a large glass sink to support. I had already done a similar job years ago for the same customer but on a carpenter’s bench.

Changes

In place of the shallow drawers to be used in a bathroom, we opted to keep the fronts off but removing everything else. They came to create two compartments large enough to hold objects. The interior has been covered in old galvanized sheet. The opening for the recess of the wastewater recovery tank was created in the floor.

The sink

When it came to designing the sink, we decided for an inclined floor drain so that the water, creating a small waterfall, flows into the steel collection tank (designed by us). From here it flows normally into the drain. Behind a small crack, there is a blue led strip that illuminates the water creating a particular optical effect.

Not just sink

In this environment we have also placed the mirror (an old wardrobe door) and the lights, made with galvanized pipe and old car studs.
