We are pleased to present the complete restoration of an extraordinary piece of musical history: the Columbia Grafonola Model 163, a gramophone dating back to the 1920s, from the United States. Our goal was to restore this magnificent instrument to its former glory, while preserving its authenticity and functionality.
The Restoration Stages:
Motor and Mechanical Parts Overhaul
The heart of the gramophone, the motor, was carefully overhauled. Every mechanical component was disassembled, inspected, and, when necessary, repaired or replaced to ensure proper functionality.
Head Repair
The head, essential for good audio quality, was carefully repaired to ensure that the gramophone’s sound was as authentic as possible.
EcoLeather Covering
One of the distinctive design elements of the gramophone is its covering. We created a new EcoLeather covering, chosen for its balance between aesthetics and sustainability, while respecting the original style of the era.
Leather Handle Reconstruction
The handle, now deteriorated, was replaced with a new, hand-recreated one to ensure functionality and durability over time, maintaining its vintage charm.
Brass Plating of External Hardware
The brass parts, which had lost their shine over time, were treated and restored to their original brilliance, adding a touch of class and refinement.
Replacement of the Velvet Platter Cloth
The old platter cloth was replaced with high-quality velvet, giving the gramophone an elegant and luxurious appearance, in keeping with its historical prestige.
